Film Magazine Images


Before starting to create my film magazine I first had to gather my images ready to place into InDesign.

This image is of one of the main characters in the film.  I chose this person as she would best represent the attraction to the film as the plot is based around her and how her friends and boyfriend has betrayed her by cheating and lying.  The image is very informal and has no relation to the plot itself as I wanted my magazine to be based on the 'behind the scene' feature to the film and the article inside would be an interview with the character about what happens around the film.  The character also has her finger on her lip and as if she is making a 'shh' sound to the audience, this is because she is either keeping a secret from the reader or letting the reader in on a secret that they shouldn't tell.
This image is also being used on my magazine as a background image.  I wanted a background image as it is conventional on most film magazines and after researching into them I found that the image is always related to a scene of the film.  In this case the character is a teenage student so I used a desk as it is relating to her school life where she would be doing homework and it is also where her side of the video call is being filmed.

This image will also be partially blurred and placed behind the main image after the background is removed and made transparent.

Final Film Poster

After having my film poster reviewed by my target audience my poster wasn't as appealing as I hoped it would be and needed some improvements.

After a deep discussion the following changes were made;
The anonymous image was made smaller and the character images were made bigger, this was because my audience felt that the characters weren't as important as the anonymous user as they're not dominating the page.
The title '#disconnected' was made smaller and not stretching out to touch either side.  This was changed so that the title was more centred and my audience felt that it didn't need to be as big as it was because 'friends or frenemies' wasn't dominating the page and it was clear that '#disconnected' was the title from the positioning and the height it already was.
The billing block was also moved up as the social media platforms were cut off from positioning it to far down causing it to fall off the page.
 The bullying report button was added to the top centre of the page as it is a popular feature of the internet and teenagers as they can report abusing behaviour online which is a major theme throughout our plot.
The anonymous icon was made red to reflect how dangerous the person behind it is. Also the dotted lines leading from the anonymous image to the characters were also made bold and red to show that they're linked to the user but not in any way that may be good.

Overall, I think my poster turned out well after the improvements made.  I especially like the use of red as it reflects danger which is throughout the whole plot and it would also make the viewer feel unease as red is known to reflect again, danger and anger.  It also break the colour scheme of the blue and white reflecting social media, especially Facebook but it works well as it has now made the poster eye catching.

Film Poster Process

To begin the creation of my film poster I began by placing a plain black background in order to insert my films title '#disconnected' which was placed at the bottom of the page.


The film title '#disconnected' was placed here because after researching into different film posters this seemed to be a conventional place for it.  As for the font and design of the title the colours are to represent Facebook, along with the font which is also the font Facebook use on their logo.  I used these fonts and colours as the trailer for this film poster is related to social media and Facebook plays a large role throughout.  The word 'connect' was also made italic and blue as I waned it to stand out because I represents, again, connecting through social media and also the characters being connected through friendship.







I then started to play around with the background by making it gradient in order to not make it look so plain and dull.  However, when I added the actors names on top you were unable to see them as I wanted the names to be the same colour as the title to keep the colour scheme flowing.  I also added boxes as an outline of where I wanted to place my images.












I then moved the gradient in order for the names to show which was successful.  However, the white in the gradient is now underneath the 'ed' of the title which may be hard to read.


































I then added a billing block that my group created and placed it a the bottom of the page, again, another convention of a film poster.  However, because the background of the billing block was black and the gradient falls lighter at the bottom of the poster.  The result of this not blending doesn't give it a professional look.  To resolve this issue I changed it back to a plain black background so that it is the same colour as the billing block and displays well.  I then added my first image of an anonymous Facebook icon as it reflects the anonymous user trolling the friendship group.  It is also placed in the middle of the poster as it plays a large part throughout the film.

I then added dotted lines around the remaining boxes and connected to the anonymous icon.  This is also to reflect the Facebook as it is used as a connecting feature on the home page and also reflects all the main characters connecting with each other throughout the film.




I then added the remaining images to the page.  Each image of the character was made to be as if they were all in the video call.  However, I feel that some images are too posed and need to be retaken, they also don't show a shocked reaction like I had originally planned.

5 Key Images of the animatic


These are key images identified by myself and from audience feedback.



The first key image is of Sarah looking at memories of her and Katie.  At this point in the trailer they’re best friends. This is a key image as it shows the happy times in their friendship before the events that cause them to have conflict.









The second is a Facebook chat notification.  This is a key image as it is the first sign of the anonymous user that manipulates and interrogates the friends.  This would interest our target audience as they would be intrigued into why the shot is so close which would give the impression that the message will not be from one of the group.






This key image is replicate of the friendship group on a call on oovoo.  This would appeal to our target audience because it’s a type of social media they would use to communicate.  This is also a key shot as it shows that we have used more than one socialmedia site for the group to communicate. It also reflects how good their friendship is as they use more than one site where they talk ect. 


This key image is one of the most important images in our animatic.  This is the point in the trailer where the conflict is caused.  This reflects the negative side of society where a lot of teenagers fall under when entering relationships at a young age.  The opens up to a new reflection on the friendship group's relationships and how trust and truth play a big issue.

This key image is the last shot in the trailer where we discover that one of Sarah’s best friends have betrayed her and secretly going behind each others' back and create an anonymous account to reveal the truth.  Sarah is the victim in this situation but one of her friends make out as if they’re the victim to hide that they are anonymous.  This would appeal to our target audience as there are many accounts on social media that are fake and have caused trouble for many teens by manipulating them.

Production Logo


A production logo is a logo used by film studios and television production companies to brand what they produce and to determine the production company and the distributor of a television show or film.  Production Logo's usually appear at the beginning film or at the end of television programmes. 

Many production logos have become popular over the years.  These are;
  • 20th Century Fox's Monument and Search Light
  • Paramount Pictures's Mountains
  • Universal Studios's Spinning Globe
  • Warner Bro's Sheild
  • Columbia Pictures personification of Columbia
  • MGM's Leo the Lion
  • Walt Disney Pictures' Fantasy Castle

When creating the logo for my groups production I wanted to give it a cinema effect.  By doing this our audience would know that our products are mainly films.

I wanted to make the logo look as if it was a cinema screen so I decided to add three 3D rectangular shapes and placed them at a curve.  I then featured our production name 'Lucegan' which we came up with when putting our names together 'Lucy' and 'Megans'.  I wanted to place this on our logo as it was conventional for production logo's to feature the name and promote our company.  I placed the name in the middle 'screen' so that it easily be read when looking straight at it.

I also liked the idea of the search lights on the 20th Century Fox logo so I used a basic version of a cartooned search light and placed it at the bottom of the screens and shinning onto the production name.  This shows a successful production company and also represents the projector that cinema's use to show their footage.
